Pilates Reflections
I was contacted today by a woman on Facebook, saying she had just taken her first
Pilates class a few days before, and she had fallen in love with the Pilates method, and
her question was if I thought she was still in time to take a certification course to become
a professor, since she was 36. On the other hand, at the same time I was answering my
dad’s e-mail; he talked about how fast time goes by, and how at 73 he has to be careful
with nearly everything. Me, at 41 I’m still battling with myself to be something more and
time is not enough, I am still learning to be who I am and how to teach what I know. I believe these three cases of simple people boil down to the same: time, the desire to do something and the fear to fail.
When I am teaching a class this is what happens: because I want to do it, I have attained
the knowledge and this has taken away the fear of doing and consequently, of achieving.
This is the basis of the success in class and my certifications. The difference lies in the
heart, in the center, the warmth and the quality: listening, learning and teaching.
Life put on my path the right people to do what I do. “Move to flow” Pilates and many
other things, passion and commitment make the difference in each teacher’s method.
This is why I consider that you never cease to learn and teach, at 36, at 41 or at 73, and
time goes by fast, but the quality of it we can change and that makes a difference.
Commitment, Responsibility, Doing, are some of the components you will find in
our courses, workshops, and classes.
If I could give a student a piece of advice, I would say not to be greedy, to learn
everything and from everyone. Not to fear the opposites, to doubt everything. To listen to
those who have walked a longer road than him, because they have already made
mistakes before. To be free of thought and movement, and to flow alongside the things
and the cases. Let go… and this way it will come.
Really, doing Pilates does you good!
